It’s Been A While…

Welcome Back

Hey everyone, long time no see!

As you probably already figured out, I took a little break from blogging after finishing The Writing Life interview series I started last year. Life got a little busier: new baby girl; other baby girl becoming toddler girl; the normal soul-sucking 9-5, Monday through Friday day-job grind for me; grad school starting to wrap up; writing. You know, all the things.

Anyways, I’m hoping to get back in the saddle again with the blog, and I figured what better way to start than with some long-overdue updates.

Shout-Out

Before we get to the updates, I just wanted to give a shout-out to the authors who were so gracious to take time out of their busy schedules and answer a few writing questions for a humble interview series by an emerging author: Thank you, B.C. Lienesch, DL Shirey, Jonathan Duckworth, Nico Bell, J.P. Pressley, Jose Hernandez Diaz, Jessica McHugh, Anna Read, Tyler Mortensen-Hayes, Holley Cornetto, Chana Porter, Shaun Hamill, and Nadia Bulkin—you all are AMAZING, and I learned so much from your interviews, and was so inspired by them, as I’m sure everyone who read them was. (And if you haven’t read the interviews, what are you waiting for?! Just click on the names above.)

Updates

  • I’m currently hard at work on my graduate thesis—it blows my mind I’ll be graduating with my MFA in Creative Writing in May! My thesis is a fiction chapbook made up of a couple of my stories—previously published and unpublished—that I’m hoping to shop around later this year. I’m REALLY excited about it, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.

  • “Unmasked”, my weird, luchador horror story, is now available in the From the Yonder 2 anthology published by War Monkey Publications! You can grab a paperback copy from Amazon or Barnes & Noble; eBooks will be available soon.

  • My dark fantasy short story, “The Hound of Oakenhall”, was released in March as part of Eerie River Publishing’s With Bone & Iron anthology; eBook, Paperback, and Hardcover are available from Amazon. (Be sure to check out the companion anthology, With Blood and Ash—it’s got some incredible stories in it that you won’t want to miss!) I did a short reading from the story for the live release of both anthologies you can watch here.

  • My horror story “Dottie” was released in February as part of Eerie River Publishing’s Midnight Shadows anthology; ebook, Paperback, and Hardcover are available from Amazon. You can also watch a live reading of “Dottie” from the Midnight Shadows release stream here.

  • Some sad news: I had to pull “Goodly Creatures” from publication—it was brought to my attention that the publisher who’d accepted it was engaged in unethical behavior and I did not want my name or work connected with them. While I’m bummed you don’t get to read the story yet, I’m excited to have a chance to make it even better before sending it out again, and I ultimately feel good about my decision.

  • I’ve been lucky enough to be invited to not one but TWO anthologies that will hopefully be released later this year. I’ve already completed my story for one of the anthologies, and I’m getting ready to outline my story for the second. I’m really excited about both projects, and can’t wait to share more information about them when I can.

  • And finally, on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 10 pm EST/7 pm PST, I’ll be joining Story Hour and doing a reading live on Facebook! I’d love for you all to come out if you can; if you can’t make it, I believe they post their videos to their Facebook page afterward.

Well, that’s it for me today! Thanks for taking the time to stop by and catch up. Have a great weekend; stay safe; and keep writing.
